Safety is a big issue for anyone in the Limo industry. Keeping current with regulations is as well.

The DOT puts together new regulations as they see the need for them. Because there is such a big issue with distracted driving and there are so many fatalities, there have been new guidelines put in place to address that.  The guidelines are specifically for companies and drivers that use and operate commercial vehicles.

Who will be affected by these new rules?

  • -Drivers with trucking companies.
  • -Bus companies.
  • -Drivers of vehicles that can hold 16 or more passengers.
  • -Vehicles weighing more than 10,000 pounds.
  • -Interstate transportation drivers with small vehicles.

Armored Limo – Who needs an armored limousine?

The president of the US, for one.

Probably the first one used by a president would be the armored Cadillac used by Roosevelt. Apparently he needed a safe ride to make his speech. It was to be made soon after the bombing on Pearl harbor, so the secret service was naturally worried about the presidents safety.

A budget of $750.00(or approximately $11,000 now)

-It is funny to imagine such things now, but back then they had serious budget constraints in place which greatly limited their ability to purchase or have made a special armored vehicle for the president.

Check the impound lot!

-Yep, that is where they wrangled up the armored Cadillac for Roosevelt to use, and is where many of the super fast police sports cars come from today. It was probably the start of a new tradition.

Dodge Viper Limo:

  • Yes, there is actually a 25 foot long Dodge Viper convertible Limo.
  • It can hold up to 12 people, but getting this for a party ride would take some serious string pulling.

The car was created by the same company that built vehicles for Indiana Jones and Back To The Future movies. Riding down the strip in Vegas would be something in this baby.

New Limo Alert-The DeLorean Is Back

A luxurious ride for time travel or any other event! Fans of the time traveling DeLorean would love to have the chance to rent the Limo version for their next special occasion. Who wants one of those giant hummer limo’s when something as ultracool as this DeLorean is available?

Back story:

Created by a software engineer, Rich Weissensel, who has  a long time love of  the DeLorean. In the past Rich became well known because of his DeLorean monster truck. There is a very popular video of him trying to maneuver this vehicle, and avoid a Ferrari in the process, on YouTube. The limo is his latest creation built from a DeLorean. He has also customized a DeLorean Hovercraft and a convertible version of the famous car.

Go Green With The Electric Leaf Limo

The Nissan Leaf has been transformed into the first ever electric stretch limo. The company that did the conversion is Imperial Limo, which is located in Springfield Mo. The new Leaf limo can hold up to eight people, including the driver.

The conversion gave the Leaf a new length of 223 inches, from the original 175. The change also added an extra 400 pounds. Within the new four foot section, there are now two rows of plush leather, facing seats, instead of the stock rear bench. There was also a wood paneled bar that works as a drink cabinet as well. With the space and amenities this Leaf limo will make the perfect ride for barhopping around town.

Naturally there are some concerns about how well the battery power will function in a vehicle that’s sole purpose is to drive around all day or night long. When an electric car is used just for commuting to work, it causes a lot less battery drain. The Leaf conversion will definitely be a cause for EV development in the near future.

Currently the only place that is using the Leaf Stretch is Embassy Suites in Cool Springs Tennessee. They have the limo as a courtesy shuttle for guests. The hotel is ramping up the available eco-friendly amenities to offer more perks to the “sustainable traveler”. They have also installed electric-car charging stations for use by guests.

A team at Embassy Suites along with their transportation partners Black Tie Valet Solutions, came up with the idea for the limo conversion. They felt that going with Nissan was the best idea, partly due to the close proximity of  Nissan North America. The Middle Tennessee location was also set to produce the Leaf by the end of 2012 and that made the choice of going with Nissan even more appealing.

Because the Leaf Limo does operate from battery power, it will be utilized in the area around the hotel. Until technological advances are made to offer more charge time it will be important to keep EV limo’s close to the home base. With this one Limo coming out it is without a doubt just the beginning of a whole new trend. The desire of Embassy Suites to become more sustainable is something that will grow with others in the industry.

A limo can be thought of as a ride also. That could either be a short daily jaunt or a long distance trek from one point to another.

Limo companies appreciate all sorts of business. Many will adjust what they offer or charge according to whatever special requests that people have.

A daily pick up and drop off, at the same time and location would be the type of request that would likely have a different price than just a onetime thing. For many busy parents using a limo to get the kids to school each day is a safe and affordable option.
