Distracted Driving is a Problem with Limo Drivers Too

Driving can be a hazard to anyone’s health. Being safe is one of those things that limo passengers depend on. There are many reasons that individuals will drive dangerously and distracted driving can affect limo drivers as well as any other driver on the road.

Distraction through sleep-deprivation:

We are a busy nation and that usually means doing more and sleeping less. This chronic lack of proper sleep is causing problems across the board. According to the CDC, a full 30% of workers that are aged from 30 to 64 are not getting the sleep that their body requires. While this might not seem all that serious in certain industries, it is a cause of concern for those that are professional drivers.

Sleep averages:

Doctors agree that the body should have 7-9 hours of sleep, as an adult. There are over 40 million people though, in the above age group, that are making it on less than 6 hours of shuteye nightly.

Transportation workers sleep averages and more stats:

There are approximately 70% of those that work in the transportation industry that live with sleeping 6 or fewer hours.

Night shift workers are more likely to live with sleep deprivation.

People with more than one job were also highly likely to suffer from less sleep.

Driving drowsy is responsible for approximately 20% of vehicle crashes.

Avoid drowsy driving and living sleepy!:

1-Go to bed and wake up at close to the same time everyday.

2-Make your sleep space ideal to your specifications. Whether that means cozy and warm or cool and dark. You need to be comfortable.

3-Stay away from things that hinder good sleep when it is close to bed time, such as; caffeine, nicotine, and alcoholic beverages.

4-Exersize will help to alleviate stress and is an aid to good sleep. Just don’t do it unless you won’t be going to bed for several hours. Give yourself at least 2 hours after a workout before trying to go to sleep.

Sleep deprivation means more than just distracted driving. There is a whole slew of adverse health effects that are attributed to lack of sleep. Professional drivers have to be especially aware of this issue and do have a responsibility to the safety of their passengers.
